Sometimes I wonder how much of the research that is done by economics profs (or academics in other disciplines) actually reaches relevant stakeholders. There’s so much literature on development economics, but it seems that very few local development agencies have access to it. I have been emailing back and forth with a development agency in Kenya and the guy I’m corresponding with said that most academics go, conduct their research, and then have no further correspondence with people they’ve interviewed or organizations they’ve worked with. A lot of the research that’s being done is brilliant. Maybe it should be further disseminated… and go beyond the academic journal… ?
